Iberia Parish/Vermilion Parish Emergency Guide
Hurricane Rita underscored the need for a comprehensive emergency preparedness plan locally. AGL Resources, in partnership with the Iberia Parish and Vermilion Parish Offices of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, set about producing a guide that reaches a new level of local disaster preparedness, response and recovery in a hurricane event.

In April 2007, we released the 42 page Iberia Parish/Vermilion Parish Emergency Guide in which residents of the two parishes will find important information to help build stronger, safer and better prepared communities for future disasters. Other sections of the emergency guide that every family can use the minute they open a copy, include a checklist for gathering items for a “Hurricane Survival Kit,” and a guide to help create an “Emergency Preparedness Plan.”

Demand for the guide has been so great AGL Resources funded a second printing of 20,000 to meet the quantity needed for a special insertion in the Abbeville Meridional and to provide additional copies to the Vermilion and Iberia Offices of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness. This brings the total number of guides printed to 44,000 copies.

The Iberia Parish/Vermilion Parish Emergency Guide is one of a number of major contributions of community support from AGL Resources during Hurricane Rita, in the aftermath and in support of Vermilion Parish recovery and planning for future emergencies.

The Iberia Parish/Vermilion Parish Emergency Guide receives ten awards
The Iberia Parish/Vermilion Parish Emergency Guide, prepared in partnership with parish emergency response officials and agencies, has received ten awards in eight separate competitions since it was produced and distributed in April of last year.

John Somerhalder, chairman, president and CEO of AGL Resources, presented the awards at an event hosted by the Vermilion Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, Thursday, May 22, at the Vermilion Parish Courthouse.

The Iberia Parish/Vermilion Parish Emergency Guide has earned the highest honors awarded in regional, national and international competitions dealing with public health, crisis communication, creative excellence and public affairs.
A total of 44,000 Iberia Parish/Vermilion Parish Emergency Guides were printed by AGL Resources to support emergency agency efforts to help families better prepare for hurricanes and other natural disasters.
